When you see a ranch setting it's so peaceful and beautiful, you don't expect that the minute the sun goes down that the rockets would go up and light it up! I have always been nerves on the 4th of July because I have always had horses and Dogs, a dog you can hold or put a thunder shirt on which by the way works great, but a horse you can do nothing. We had people setting off fireworks all around us very large aerials we went out to look at all the horses and they were watching them and no one looked upset at all, but in the morning the mare was flipping her lip up so I knew she was trying to  colic. So we took her to the vet twice in 3 days and she was diagnosed with  mild colic and ulcers, they put her on Gastoguard at 50.00 a tube and we had to buy several. They did tube her twice with water and electrolytes because she would not drink water. You know the old adage that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink! she is just now coming around shes very old this was so hard on her shes a retired show horse so it makes sense that she might have had ulcers and we didn't know it plus she internalizes her emotions. so please next 4th of July think before you set off those fireworks in a area that they shouldn't be in and around ranches is not the place!
